Indonesian BXSea Oceanarium

From Orphek’s extensive portfolio of clients, spanning public venues in over 50 countries, we have selected the latest customization project to showcase today: The BXSEa Oceanarium in Indonesia.

The Oceanarium offers 20 distinct journeys for visitors to explore, providing a diverse and immersive experience.

Spanning 7,354 square meters and containing over 4.5 million liters of water, BXSea features approximately 25,000 aquatic creatures from 140 species across 54 displays, including 44 freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as 10 terrariums.

For this project, the client has chosen several Orphek LED solutions, incorporating both standard and customized units, tailored to specific requirements.

As per the Amazonas 960 iCon units, client has chosen this Orphek LED Lighting solution for both reef and freshwater tanks.

The Amazonas 960 iCon Saltwater units were customized as follows: Channel 1 18K XP/ Channel 2 Blue/ Channel 3 XP Blue / Channel 4 18K.

And the Amazonas 960 iCon Freshwater units were delivered with different customizations as follows: Channel 1 6K XP / Channel 2 6K / Channel 3 XP Red / Channel 4 14K.

Orphek LED lighting showcases Indonesian BXSea Oceanarium

Customization for privately-owned large tanks

The Polo Reef aquarium is a 17,000 gallon tank said to be the biggest private reef tank in the USA.

This stunning reef aquarium is owned by a long-time passionate hobbyist, Andrew Sandler, who has successfully achieved to recreate a “snapshot of Nature” (in Andrew’s words) in his own home.

This 17,000-gallon tank, previously exclusive to the Sandler family, now named the Polo Reef Tank, has been transformed into a hub for education and exploration, inviting hobbyists to delve into the wonders of marine life.

Info about this tank

System established: June 2019.
Display tank: Custom-built with 4-inch (10-cm) thick acrylic viewing panels and fiberglass bottom. and rear wall 17,000 gallons (64,400 liters) 16x15x9 feet (488x457x274 cm).
Lights: 4 units of Orphek customized Amazonas 960 iCon with xp violet spectrum and a mix of lights of other brands.
Sumps: Polypropylene 2,500 gallons (9,500 L).
Quarantine tanks: 4 X 500-gallon (19,00-L).

The 17,000 gallon tank is the home of 100 types fish coming from various geographic locations of the world (Hawaii, Australia, Red Sea and Indonesia); several LPS/SPS reef corals.

Recognizing the necessity for supplemental Violet/UV Violet spectrums (ranging from 400 to 430 nm), the Polo Reef Tank has acquired four units of our Orphek Amazonas 960 iCon reef LED lighting solutions.

Our Amazonas 960 iCon 80w XP Blue Plus was reconfigured and customized to meet the specific requirements of this exceptional reef aquarium.

The new customized LED ratio for the Polo Reef tank (total of 80 XP LEDs):

26 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 400nm
26 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 420nm
28 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 430nm

These wavelengths are essential for photosynthesis and coloration, being absorbed by both chlorophylls a and c2. The violet band proved to be essential for the excitation of fluorescent proteins found in many corals.
