Our trip to Japan gave us the opportunity to meet in person with Masahiro Kamiya from Pacific-Japan Co., who has been a good client and also happens to be the owner of one exquisite reef aquarium.

One of our target goals with the V4 was also to try to minimize as much as possible the outbreak of cyanobacteria and/or the growth of nuisance algae.

”I’ve kept marine aquariums for many years and over time I’ve tried most lights, Halides, T5, T5 Hybrid, LED Modules etc.

I upgraded my tank 2 years ago and went with a T5 Hybrid as I felt that was the best option to achieve the results I wanted to achieve which was a healthy SPS dominated reef that grew well and was full of colour.
–
I’m not going to have a knock at T5’s as they are good lights and will grow anything well but my tank is 1.8m long and my light was 1.5m leaving shadows at the end.
–
I decided I wanted to go full LED so which one to choose? After lots of deliberation I decided on Orphek primarily because I could go with a lower number of units due to the immense coverage and the controllability etc.
–
Customer service has been outstanding, I asked many questions and always received a quick response without the hard sell, and now I know why – these lights sell themselves.

My tank is looking better than any tank I’ve owned, the lights are extremely controllable, and aesthetically they tick all the boxes for me.

I’ve now order a frag tank and I’ve another Compact V4 sat waiting to go over it – If you are undecided trust me take the plunge, you won’t be disappointed”.

Craig ( @ch.reef ) – “I moved over from freshwater discus a couple of years ago, started with a red sea max nano, then a reefer 350, now 625xxl, and now I’m not allowed any bigger 😂. Tank is sps dominant, mainly tangs and wrasse, where I have 4 tangs and 7(I think) wrasse. It’s only 6 months old”.

“Ok so the minute I saw these lights on BRSTV I had my eyes on them and my upgrade was the perfect opportunity! (This is an ungraded tank from a Redsea Reefer 250, upgraded in March this year so only 5 months since transferring).

The light spread is amazing! The V4’s would do the job alone. I added the blue plus because I like a bluer light and they really make a difference to that “pop”!

I personally stagger the times of the bars. Lights on at 10am and off at 8pm, peak 12-6. Front bar on at 12, rear at 2. I use the bars as moon lighting, front going off at 9, rear off at 10 and it looks mega 👌🏽

They’re mounted at 16” V4’s run at 50% max and you can see the combined par numbers I get at that!

Lastly I’d like to add that Tony at 👉 @coralcompassmarine (our Orphek supplier in the UK) is great. He is so helpful, genuinely interested in his customers tanks and always available to help!”

I have always enjoyed artwork and paintings, so the custom designed oil barrel that I made is the perfect addition to my reef tank from a plain old stand. The space theme on the barrel creates the effects of the ocean and sky with the tank. You see the stars and planets in one half, and the fish and ocean life in the other. 🌌🐠 I have a whole world in my room for me to look at!

“I stared in May last year. Funny story, I’ve gone through 5 tanks in one year to find the one I really like. Also same with the lights.💡 I started with kessil, then AI prime. Badass reef tank construction! Part 1 🔧🐠

In today’s post we are bringing a detailed tank construction with our Orphek OR2 LED Bars combined with T5’s that the client previously owned.
–
Here he added 2 units of Orphek OR2 120’s 48″ Blue Plus for color pop and to enhance health and beauty of his SPS corals.

“This tank just turned a year old on June 3rd 2020. For starters the tank is a 240 Gallon SPS dominant Peninsula Aquarium. It has an External Coast to coast overflow (dimensions are 60×36”26” tall)

I started this tank with dry rock cycled in a couple Rubbermaid’s for a month.
–

I used Seachem seed and Live rock enhance to cycle the tank. The stand is built out of 2” Square tubing. I built the stand from the hood to all the wood panels.
–
This stand has gussets, the Wood panels magnetize to. Stand is all powder coated Black. Wood panels and hood I did in a vinyl wrap. Was very easy to install the wrap.
–
For the sump I have a custom built 137 gallon acrylic tank. This was built by clear fabrications. It has a 40 gallon Refugium that runs 24/7 and a 25 gallon Built in ATO run by The APEX ATK.
–
The skimmer that I use is a RedSea RSK600 with a custom 2.5 gallon DIY Skimmate container, this has a float valve so when it’s full it alerts my apex via BOB(break Out Box).

To keep Po4/Algae in check I have a Custom DIY Algae Scrubber it runs 24/7. Also use an Aqua UV 80 watt UV sterilizer, this makes my water crystal clear.
