Extracted from the review by DaniReef LAB, here are the key highlights that make the Orphek Natura iCon a standout choice for aquarists seeking top performance, prioritizing quality and efficiency:
Outstanding Performance and Efficiency:
The fixture delivers a very high PAR level—over 2000 μmol/m²/s at just 17cm distance with only 150W power consumption—making it highly efficient and suitable for demanding reef tanks.
“The Orphek Natura iCon consumes 150 watts—exactly as declared by Orphek. Considering it delivers 2032 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ at 17 cm in the center, we can estimate a peak efficiency of 13.55 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ W⁻¹, which is, to say the least, a monstrous level of efficiency.“
High PAR-Per-Watt Ratio:
With an efficiency of approximately 13.55 μmol/m²/s per watt, the Natura iCon offers exceptional energy efficiency compared to many other fixtures. –
“The configuration of the new Natura iCon is similar to its big sister, the iCon. The result is 150 watts of power and a very high PAR level, especially considering the total output is just 150 watts.”
“The six channels are quite balanced overall” (they measured the output for each individual channel, only at the center, showing each channel’s contribution to total PAR.)

Excellent Light Spectrum Tailored for Corals:
The spectral distribution peaks around 442 nm, with very little wasted energy outside the range usable by corals (cPUR), ensuring maximum utility for coral growth.
“…it’s accurate enough to show a clear dominance around 442 nm, where the PAR peaks. The spectrum appears virtually identical across all three distances, and the maximum PAR and lux values…”

“In practice, there’s no wasted light outside the range usable by corals—and that’s what really matters.“

Impressive Coverage and Uniformity:
Even at a distance of 57cm, it provides broad, high PAR coverage suitable for tanks up to around 60–70 cm wide, with consistent performance across different depths.
“Just by looking at the graph, we can see full coverage with high PAR levels, especially considering this is from a distance of 57 cm from the light fixture. An incredible result in terms of coverage. The central value further drops from 2032 to 688 to 332 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹.”
“For the Orphek Natura iCon, the values remain incredibly consistent—evidence that a 60 cm wide coverage area seems perfect for these fixtures. “(conclusion on Energy variation)
Versatility:
Its spectral distribution, high efficiency, and build quality make it a versatile fixture capable of supporting a wide variety of corals, including SPS, in a compact form.
Advanced LED Configuration:
It uses 156 LEDs across 13 different types, carefully studied and grouped into 6 channels to optimize spectrum and light distribution.

Orphek Natura: 150 Watts to Challenge Aquariums – Full Review – Cont.
Building on the key points from DaniReef LAB’s review, we will now continue to share more in-depth details and findings from their comprehensive evaluation. This will give you a clearer understanding of the performance, spectrum, coverage, and features that make the Orphek Natura iCon a standout in reef lighting. Reminding, for the comprehensive written evaluation, including all relevant graphs and tables, please refer to their their website.
We finally have the brand-new Orphek Natura iCon in our hands—it’s smaller than the previous iCon, but it promises outstanding performance, just as we’ve come to expect from the Orphek brand.
The following sections provide evaluation on performance, spectrum, coverage, and unique features:
Quality, Heat Management, Programming, Channels
As always, the build quality of this fixture is excellent.
There are two top-mounted fans to evacuate hot air.
The Orphek Natura iCon lighting fixtures feature a hybrid active/passive cooling system that uses two fans controlled by a sensor located on the PCB. In addition to that, the entire external casing is made of aluminum to better dissipate heat.

The six sliders correspond to the six channels, each marked in its predominant color. The circular master dial sets all channels to the same level—turning it to 40% sets every channel to 40%. Simple and intuitive.
DaniReef provides a detailed breakdown of each channel, specifying which LEDs are active and analyzing their respective contributions to the total PAR, along with their share of the overall power consumption.
All measurements are obtained directly from hands-on testing:
Channel 1: 740, 670, 590nm LEDs and 18K white – Channel 1 is responsible for 13% of the total PAR output of the light fixture and 16% of the total power consumption.
Channel 2: 480, 470nm LEDs and 18K white – Channel 2 is responsible for 19% of the total PAR output and 16% of the total power consumption.
Channel 3: 480 and 470nm LEDs – Channel 3 is responsible for 15% of the total PAR output and 16% of the total power consumption.
Channel 4: 470, 460, and 450nm LEDs – Channel 4 contributes 22% of the total PAR output and 16% of the total power consumption.
Channel 5: 430 and 420nm LEDs – Channel 5 accounts for 20% of the total PAR and 18% of the total power consumption.
Channel 6: 410, 400, and 390nm LEDs – Channel 6 is responsible for 10% of the total PAR and 18% of the total power consumption.
His conclusions:
So, Channels 2, 4, and 5 together produce 61% of the fixture’s total PAR output. On the other hand, Channel 6 contributes the least to PAR but has the highest power consumption.

PAR
The tests were conducted on a 70 × 70 cm base, equipped with 17 fiducial points for precise positioning of the Apogee MQ-510 sensor. The Natura iCon sensor was positioned at three different distances—20 cm, 40 cm, and 60 cm—from the fixture, ensuring consistent sensor-to-fixture spacing across all measurements. This setup facilitated the generation of spatial curves that are comparable across various fixtures at predetermined distances.
Distances were measured from the base of the sensor to the base of the fixture. Measurements were taken at three in-air distances: 17 cm, 37 cm, and 57 cm, with appropriate correction factors applied to account for air attenuation and other factors.
Additionally, the setup included ITC’s new PARwise PRO device, which measures Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), analyzes the spectrum, and provides cPUR (Coral Photosynthetically Usable Radiation) — a specialized light metric designed to assess conditions relevant to coral health.
Measures at 17cm
The review also offers tables and graphs displaying the central values at different distances.
The first measurement is characterized by a limited distance between the fixture and the sensor. The PAR values are very high in the center and show the typical “circus tent” shape. This is expected, considering the size of the fixture, which measures 37×20 cm.

Measures at 37cm
Increasing the space between the fixture and the sensor, the curve becomes more uniform. The peak value remains very high. The central value drops from 2032 to 688 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ .

Measures at 57cm
Just by looking at the graph, we can see full coverage with high PAR levels, especially considering this is from a distance of 57 cm from the light fixture. An incredible result in terms of coverage. The central value further drops from 2032 to 688 to 332 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹.

And his conclusions on the PAR for the highest distance:
Just by looking at the graph, we can see full coverage with high PAR levels, especially considering this is from a distance of 57 cm from the light fixture. An incredible result in terms of coverage. The central value further drops from 2032 to 688 to 332 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹.
Energy Variation
In their view, this is the most meaningful and comparable data point. They calculated the volume under the three surface plots representing PAR distribution. The insight is that as the fixture’s distance increases, the PAR values decrease, but the total energy also drops because the light illuminates a larger area. Note: This method considers the total luminous energy within a hypothetical 60 cm square area under the fixture.
The three volume values were approximately: 1,171,000 at 20 cm/ 1,010,000 at 40 cm/ 730,000 at 60 cm

And he explains: They have a different significance than the central readings. While the peak PAR drops markedly with distance, the overall energy decreases less, since most of the fixture’s concentrated light remains in the center. This supports the theory that the fixture distributes light broadly, even as intensity diminishes.
And his conclusion:
For the Orphek Natura iCon, the values remain incredibly consistent—evidence that a 60 cm wide coverage area seems perfect for these fixtures. Of course, depending on the corals being kept, this is ideal for tanks up to 60 cm wide, and still good for aquariums 70 or even 80 cm wide. Keep in mind that while the coverage is good, the light beams will hit the sides at an angle, meaning the effect on corals will differ from wider fixtures like the ATI Straton, GNC BluRay X, and Philips CoralCare.
Danireef Lab also brought more interesting measures that we are very excited to share:
Light Spectrum of the Orphek Natura iCon

“Above are the light spectrum readings from the PARwise PRO. Of course, the spectrum is created using discrete point measurements, so the curve isn’t as smooth as what a more advanced instrument would provide. However, it’s accurate enough to show a clear dominance around 442 nm, where the PAR peaks. The spectrum appears virtually identical across all three distances, and the maximum PAR and lux values are summarized in the table below:

Conclusion:
“These center values are roughly 10% higher than those measured with the Apogee MQ-510.”
Orphek Natura iCon’s cPUR
Next, they analyzed the green curve, which shows the cPUR—the Coral Photosynthetically Usable Radiation. cPU— a measurement designed specifically for corals.
According to ITC, PAR values alone don’t indicate if the light is truly useful for coral growth. You could have high PAR levels concentrated in the wrong part of the spectrum.
Conclusion:
“We can see that the spectrum of the Orphek Natura iCon fits entirely below the hypothetical cPUR curve. In practice, there’s no wasted light outside the range usable by corals—and that’s what really matters. The measurement indicates that only about 0.13% to 0.15% of the total power is emitted in a range that corals cannot use.”
Pigments Excited by the Orphek Natura iCon
Using a new software called Parwise PRO they were also allowed us to explore the pigments excited by the light. In this review they collected data and they will use it for future comparisons with other fixtures.
What they could see is that the characterization is consistent across all distances, while the impact of each pigment varies significantly depending on the active channel—as confirmed by their measurements, though they chose not to include them to avoid overwhelming data.

Channel Values at the Center Across the Three Distances
Danireef also measured the output for each individual channel, only at the center, to give readers an idea of each channel’s contribution to total PAR.

Conclusion
“The six channels are quite balanced overall, though we can identify two distinct behaviors. Channels 2, 4, and 5—mostly in the blue range—are responsible for the lion’s share * of the PAR. The other three channels contribute significantly less. The first three channels produce 61% of the PAR while using 50% of the total power; the other three channels also use 50% of the power but produce only 39% of the PAR.“
*meaning the biggest or most significant portion of something

In the next section you will learn why our Natura iCon is indeed a 150W LED lighting fixture that renders as Danireef says – a monstrous level of efficiency and not to forget… delivering exquisite spectrum that Reef builders called- a Reef LED Spectrum Beast... yes! The numbers never lie because Orphek relies all its developments only on serious proven researches made by the most advanced labs worldwide.
Power Consumption
Using a RCE PM600 tool, Danireef Lab precisely measured the Natura iCon’s instant power consumption and power factor (Cos φ). The resulting data, expressed in watts, is shown below, with the maximum power followed by the power factor reading
Conclusion
The Orphek Natura iCon consumes 150 watts—exactly as declared by Orphek. Considering it delivers 2032 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ at 17 cm in the center, we can estimate a peak efficiency of 13.55 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ W⁻¹, which is, to say the least, a monstrous level of efficiency.
Orphek Natura iCon and Heat Management
The Orphek Natura iCon lighting fixtures feature a hybrid active/passive cooling system that uses two fans controlled by a sensor located on the PCB. In addition to that, the entire external casing is made of aluminum to better dissipate heat.
How should we interpret these numbers in the aquarium?
In this next section Danireef explains that they initially believed standard air measurements could estimate how light behaves inside an aquarium. However, after testing with water and glass, they discovered the results were significantly higher underwater, showing that light behaves differently in the tank. To improve accuracy, they developed their own method to measure PAR directly inside the aquatic environment, leading to more realistic assessments.
His Conclusions are very important!
They concluded that even at a depth of 46 cm, PAR values remain high and evenly distributed across the tank, demonstrating the fixture’s reliable and stable performance at deeper levels with consistent results. This confirms the fixture’s excellent efficiency and coverage in real-world aquarium conditions.
Efficiency is the key feature of this new Orphek Natura iCon.
An outstanding PAR-per-watt ratio and a very, very good energy efficiency per watt. It’s hard to do better with only 150 watts of available power. All of this data shows that these fixtures are perfect for aquariums up to 60 cm wide, a bit stretched for 70 cm — though it’s worth noting that corals won’t be placed directly against the glass, but set back slightly. Of course, we always remind readers that spectrum analysis — which we can’t perform — and long-term durability must also be considered.
Final Thoughts on the Orphek Natura iCon
The fixture is very well built and displays impressive efficiency. The moon phase simulation feature is simply amazing — although it really needs to be seen in person to understand how it works.
From an economic perspective, the efficiency is in the upper range compared to other fixtures, but the technical efficiency — that is, the PAR output per watt — is extremely high. The energy output at all three measured distances reaches incredibly high values.
Below is the spectral distribution (PPFD) at various depths in clear ocean water. The measured values are:

This comprehensive evaluation and the detailed technical findings reaffirm Orphek’s reputation as a leader in cutting-edge LED reef aquarium lighting solutions for over a decade. The results exemplify our dedication to excellence and a passion for nature, technology, and design, redefining the way you illuminate your aquatic world:
So, at 37 cm distance with the Orphek Natura iCon set to maximum output, we recorded 688 µmol/m²/s with the Apogee sensor and 782 µmol/m²/s with the PARWISE PRO. This corresponds to an approximate natural light level found between 6.5 and 7.5 meters below the sea surface — an incredibly high output! This allows for the successful keeping of virtually any coral species. Moreover, as we’ve seen, the values increase further when factoring in the glass reflections, which act like an additional lens.
The PAR values are excellent for tanks up to 60–65 cm wide, suitable for keeping both SPS corals and any other type. Naturally, if you’re aiming for high-demand SPS, the central section is preferable due to the typical drop-off in intensity toward the edges and the angle of the light. The power is strongest near the top of the tank, as expected. As depth increases, the intensity decreases, but coverage expands and remains broad. The fixture is just under 37 cm long, making it ideal for 60 cm tanks or multiples thereof. Two fixtures are perfect for a 120 cm aquarium.
