Stunning Client Photos: See the Omini in Action

Words can only go so far — let the results speak for themselves!

Here’s a curated selection of photos taken by Bill H. captured by our reefing community using the Omini 77mm Magnetic Lens Kit.

“All of these images were shot using the new Orphek Omini, 77mm lens/filter kit. They were taken with a Nikon Digital SLR camera, but beautiful photos can be achieved with a cell phone camera as well when using this kit.” (testimonial taken from his facebook page, about Omini Lens)

From vivid coral close-ups to full-tank shots, you’ll see how the Omini brings out true-to-life colors, incredible detail, and professional-level clarity — all without advanced photography skills.

💡 Pro Tip: Notice the difference in lighting, color balance, and magnification. Each shot demonstrates how the Omini transforms everyday reef photography and makes inspection or maintenance a breeze.

Images are better than a 1000 words, but we have some comments…

Yellows: Bright and luminous, yellows pop with precision, revealing textures and subtle details.

Omini capturing a warm yellow-gold base with purple-red accents. The texture’s crests catch light, intensifying the golden hues against a cooler background.

Deep blue: base with abundant magenta-pink polyps; some centers show a lighter pink or fuchsia.

In this close up Omini has capture the coral with a flower-bouquet look. The magenta/pink polyp centers glow strongly under blue actinic, creating a speckled, dotted look across the surface.

Overall palette: A strong cool-blue foundation with vibrant pink-magenta highlights—high contrast and high visual punch.

Purples: Deep purples gain intensity and depth, making even the smallest nuances of your corals stand out.

Omini captures the predominantly purple/magenta with electric blue highlights; fluorescence intensifies the purple core while the blue backdrop adds a neon glow to edges.

Dominant palette: Neon greens and purples. The base tissue glows a pale, almost lime-green under blue light, while the numerous round polyps or nodules glow vivid purple.

Omini has captured the purple tips appearing as discrete, spherical nodules scattered across a green-blue backdrop. The glow is highly saturated, typical of strong fluorophores responding to actinic/blue illumination.

What you see in this photograph: High-contrast microtopography. The soft green background gives way to crisp purple-rounded tips, creating a speckled, almost bubbly texture.

What Bill can learn about this coral analyzing the photo he has taken: Pigment distribution study: The clustering of purple tips suggests localized pigment-rich regions, possibly concentrated in the polyps’ outer rims or bulbous tips.

Greens: Vibrant green corals hues are captured in stunning detail — the Omini brings out every subtle shade and pattern.

Using Omini Bill H captured dense, radiating green iridescence from the extensions against a dark teal/blue reef; the green rings look almost neon due to fluorescence paired with structural light scattering.

Omini captured the beautiful Magenta to red tissue with bright lime-green patches. The green stands out as fluorescent spots, giving an almost mosaic feel.

Blues and cyans: Subtle cool undertones or rim highlights that shimmer with fluorescence.

Bill H has captured with Omini the granular texture blue-green center with textured ring, catching light in a way that exagerates the bluish sheen/ bright cyan/teal at the central opening, surrounded by a deep to medium blue-green body.

The outer rim glows with saturated blue-green, likely due to GFP-like pigments and structural tissue scattering.

Overall palette: Primarily cool blues and greens, with a high-contrast center that pops against the darker surrounding areas.

Reds: Bold reds come alive, highlighting the rich saturation and striking patterns of your reef.

In this next photo Omini lens has captured the complexity of textured rich orange to coral body with lighter, almost white speckling on the raised ridges.

Fluorescence and contrast: White speckles suggest areas with higher pigment density or reflective surfaces; the orange base can fluoresce under actinic light, giving a warm, fiery look.

Overall palette: Warm hues—orange, red-orange, pale yellow highlights—set against a darker, shadow-rich background.

Pink: Soft peach-pink base with translucent, almost pastel green or yellow-green patches.

Here Omini has capture a candy like coral photo with this combination of creamy white, pink and lime green!

The pastel greens likely come from fluorescent proteins, showing through the fleshy, lumpy surface. The pink/pale tones give a gentle, fleshy glow under blue/UV light.

Overall palette: Warm-to-cool interplay—pink/pale peach complemented by bright lime-green accents.

Oranges: Warm, rich orange tones shine brilliantly, showing off the natural gradients and glowing highlights of your corals.

In this last photo Bill has captured warm orange to coral base, with coral tissue showing a rich orange-coral tone across the body. He has also captured greenish-cyan highlights. Tips and edges exhibit turquoise/greenish reflections due to fluorescence and light scattering.

Fluorescence and distribution effects: The tentacles display a gradient of color, with lighter tips and deeper bases, giving a multi-tone appearance.

Overall palette: A warm dominant coral-orange/biscuit tone/ Complementary cool greens/teals on extended polyps/ Subtle purple-pink undertones in the ambient background, enhancing contrast.

About coral colors:

Fluorescent pigments: Many corals house proteins (fluorophores) that absorb one wavelength and re-emit another, intensifying greens, blues, and pinks under blue/UV lighting. This is why blue/actinic light often makes greens glow and pinks pop.

Pigment-based coloration: Carotenoids, GFP-like proteins, and chromeny-based pigments contribute broad yellows, oranges, greens, and reds. Their distribution varies with species, colony health, and environmental stressors.

Structural coloration: The micro-architecture of coral tissue and skeleton (scales, ridges, and polyps) can amplify or dull certain wavelengths, giving a vivid, almost painterly look when light catches the surface at certain angles.

Fluorophore distribution: Regions with higher densities of bright green or yellow fluorophores tend to stand out against darker purples or reds, creating a striking contrast.

Mastering Composition and Framing for Professional Reef Photography

Focus points: For close-ups, manual focus is often superior to autofocus. Use magnification on the Omini to nail the polyp details.

Rule of thirds: Position the main coral colony off-center to create depth. Include some negative space to reduce clutter.

Depth of field: Macro coral shots benefit from a shallow depth of field to isolate the subject, but ensure enough depth to keep essential features in focus. Use small apertures (higher f-stop) if the subject is flat or if you want more of the colony in focus.

Angles and perspective: Shoot slightly from above or at a 45-degree angle to reveal polyp structure and fluorescence gradients. Rotate the lens to explore different focal planes.

In this video by @scoobytu you will see how to mount the lens in the base and the before-and-after effect — see your reef tank exactly as it looks without the lens, then experience the incredible clarity, color, and detail the Omini brings.
