Dr. Sanjay Joshi Test units are to be given away in contest during MACNA and HUGE discounts on Atlantik Pendant.
We are very grateful for the work of Dr. Sanjay Joshi. His testing of lighting for our hobby has provided good information to both the hobbyist and the industry professional alike. From metal halide to LED lighting Sanjay has been instrumental in analyzing the PAR levels and spectrum that are provided by some of the best known brands.
In his recent Reefs.com article he tested 4 of our Orphek Atlantik series lights. The Atlantik v2.1B WiFi with 2 different lens options, the Atlantik Compact WiFi and the Atlantik Pendant WiFi. The results of the testing can be seen below as well as a link to the original article.
For the contest we will be giving away 1 light each day of MACNA in a random drawing based upon our Facebook post of this contest. You can find the post on our Facebook page; Orphek Facebook. Contest instructions will also be on the post.
Winners will receive the actual units used by Sanjay for his testing. These units will ship following MACNA directly to your door.

From Dr. Sanjay’s Conclusion at the end of the article.
“The Orphek Pendant drawing 102W and the Halo MX80 Pendant drawing 93 Watts are fairly close in power consumption with the Orphek providing a larger spread with larger area of higher intensities. Additionally the Orphek provides a wider range of spectrums in the LED mix.”
“The Orphek Atlantik v2.1B with 90 degree optics is designed with fairly narrow optics and tends to focus the light into a smaller area as compared to the other LEDs tested here. Hence the PAR values are considerably higher at 24” and 30”. To get a larger spread these lights would have to be mounted much higher, or they can be used to light deeper tanks more effectively”
“Range of spectrums in the LED mix. The Orphek Atlantik v2.1B with wide optics is an excellent option for wide tanks. As seen from the data there is an almost 30”X36” coverage of area where the light intensity is greater than 80 micromoles/m^2/sec, while still achieving high intensity of over 120 at 30” away. Other factors that may be considered while comparing the lights is the controllability and features provided by the various lights along with the costs. An important criteria that should not be ignored is the ability of the manufacturer to provide service.”
“LED lighting has come a long away in the last few years. The data clearly shows that there are wide range of LEDs that can adequately provide the lighting requirements for keeping and growing coral and using the data provided can be used to select a lighting system that would meet the needs of the user.”
