One reef. Three lenses. A completely different way to look at it.

Today, we’re bringing back one of our beloved reef gadgets.
Some Orphek products are about technology. Some are about performance.
And then there are those little tools that simply become part of the way you enjoy your reef.
Today, we’re bringing back one of our beloved gadgets: the OMINI 77mm Magnetic Lens Kit.
We’ve talked about it before, but some products are worth coming back to, especially when there is still so much to discover through them.
After seeing what the OMINI can reveal time and time again, we thought it deserved another moment in the spotlight.
Because sometimes, you don’t need to change your reef.
You just need to look at it differently.
And this time, we’re not just going to tell you about it. We’re going to show you.
Throughout the article, you’ll see OMINI being opened, explored and put to work by reef keepers, revealing just how much more there is to discover beneath the surface.
A reef aquarium can look spectacular from across the room.
Move closer, and an entirely different world appears.
Tiny polyp structures. Subtle color transitions. Fluorescent details. Textures across coral tissue. Areas of a colony that are difficult to inspect with the naked eye.
The Orphek OMINI 77mm Magnetic Lens Kit was created to bring those details closer, whether the goal is capturing better reef photography, inspecting corals, or simply seeing the aquarium from a different perspective.
And it does it with three interchangeable optical lenses and a magnetic system designed specifically for aquarium use.
See it through the OMINI
Angelica from @angelica_reef takes us in for a closer look, using the OMINI 77mm with the yellow lens and zoom lens combination to reveal the tiny details, textures and colors that make a reef so captivating.
A beautiful reminder that there is always more to discover when you get a little closer. 🫧🌈

More than a reef photography filter
OMINI was designed around a simple idea:
Why should photographing your reef and inspecting your reef require completely different tools?
The OMINI combines photography, magnification and hands-free aquarium viewing in one compact kit.
Its 77mm lenses can be used with compatible 77mm DSLR camera setups, while the included magnetic base allows the lenses to be positioned directly against aquarium glass or acrylic up to 15 mm thick.
That means the same kit can move from:
Photography → Close-up inspection → Maintenance → Documentation
without turning the aquarium into a complicated photography setup.
Three lenses. Three different ways to see your reef.
77mm Macro Lens
This is where the smallest details become the subject.
The macro lens is designed for close-up photography and detailed viewing, making it particularly useful when photographing coral texture, polyps, frags and other small areas of the aquarium.
It can also be useful when inspecting areas that are difficult to see clearly during routine maintenance.
Sometimes, getting closer changes everything.
15,000K Orange Lens
Reef aquariums are often illuminated with strong blue-heavy lighting.
That creates the dramatic fluorescence reef keepers love, but it can also make accurate color representation challenging when photographing the aquarium.
The 15,000K Orange Lens helps balance the blue appearance and bring warmer tones forward, making it easier to capture a more natural representation of the reef.
20,000K Yellow Lens
The 20,000K Yellow Lens provides another approach to color balance and contrast.
Used independently or together with the Orange Lens, it helps refine the appearance of photographs taken under aquarium lighting.
The result is not about making the reef look artificial.
It is about giving the camera a better opportunity to capture what is actually there.
Real reef. Real colors. A whole lot more detail.

The magnetic advantage
One of OMINI’s most useful features has nothing to do with photography.
It is the way the lens stays where you put it.
The magnetic base attaches securely to aquarium glass or acrylic, allowing the lens to be positioned directly against the viewing surface.
That creates a hands-free setup for photography, inspection and maintenance.
Instead of holding a filter in front of the aquarium while simultaneously trying to position a camera, adjust focus and find the right composition, the OMINI can remain attached to the viewing panel.
Less equipment to hold. More attention on the reef.
When the reef becomes the subject
There is a reason close-up reef photography has become so much more than simply taking a picture of an aquarium.
At macro scale, corals reveal another level of complexity.
Surface structures become visible. Polyps become individual subjects. Colors that appear uniform from a distance reveal gradients and patterns.
The OMINI was designed to make those details easier to capture.
And this isn’t limited to hobbyist photography.
From reef photography to coral documentation

The Forever Reef Project, the living coral biobank established by Great Barrier Reef Legacy in Port Douglas, has incorporated the OMINI 77mm Magnetic Lens Filters into its coral imaging and documentation work.
The project has used the lenses for macro-scale imaging and video documentation under controlled aquarium conditions, allowing closer observation of coral tissue, skeletal microstructure and surface morphology.
That is a very different application from taking a beautiful photograph of a reef tank.
But the principle is the same:
When you can see more detail, you can document more detail.
For reef keepers, that might mean photographing a new coral.
For a coral conservation project, it can mean documenting changes over time.
Built for reef keepers who want more from their camera
You don’t need a professional photography studio to use OMINI.
The system is designed to work with compatible 77mm camera lenses and can also be used with the magnetic base directly on the aquarium.
It is equally at home with:
- Coral close-ups
- Full reef photography
- Frag documentation
- Coral growth records
- Detailed inspection
- Aquarium maintenance
- Macro photography
- Visual reef documentation
And because the complete kit comes in a portable hard storage case, it can be kept ready for the next photograph, inspection or aquarium visit.

What’s inside the OMINI 77mm kit?
The complete kit includes:
- 1 × 77mm Macro Lens
- 1 × 15,000K Orange Lens
- 1 × 20,000K Yellow Lens
- 1 × Magnetic Base
- 1 × Magnet
- 1 × Cleaning Cloth
- 1 × User Guide

The lenses use 77mm optics, while the magnetic system is designed for aquarium glass and acrylic up to 15 mm thick.

Your reef already has the detail. OMINI helps you see it.
A great reef photograph isn’t only about having an expensive camera.
It is about getting the camera between the viewer and the aquarium in the right way.
It is about controlling the color.
Getting closer.
Finding the detail.
And sometimes simply looking at a familiar coral from a completely different perspective.
The Orphek OMINI 77mm Magnetic Lens Kit gives you three ways to do exactly that.
